Progress

June 11th, 2008 by admin

And its about time we break our “blog-silence”. Apologies for not updating the blog. But the good side to it is we were kept busy by the advertisers!

we are growing !

  • Thanks to you, we are over 1.5 million users strong!
  • Over 250 advertisers are advertising with us. 74% of them are repeat customers delighted with the response you give
  • We have done over 2000 campaigns

On a side note, we have recorded over Rs 50 Lakhs in user payout! And we have sent out more than 500 cheques! Efforts are on to unlock most of the user payout faster by reducing the 300-Rupee barrier to sub-50-Rupee levels. Do give us your ideas on how we could do that efficiently.

Yes. It’s been a successful, rather a very fascinating journey so far. The future will see us stretching our efficiencies to the max. Lined up at mGinger, is a host of plans to expand activities and scale of operations. A whole bunch of offerings are in queue for you. So, hang on tight!

We are revolutionizing consumerism. And we’re growing. If you aren’t part of us, it’s time you should be.

And the First Cheque goes to …

Mitesh Ashar from Mumbai !!!

Mitesh himself received 6 ads so far. Interestingly, almost every time we run a campaign he makes some money, whether he himself gets the message or not. Mitesh, an engineering student in Mumbai, is also on the verge of turning into an entrepreneur. He has his own website and asked us if he could advertise to the mGinger community about it.

On this big occasion for our small mGinger community, we would first like to thank each and every one of you for trusting us. This occasion only goes to reconfirm and strengthen your twin-beliefs:one, that this will work and two, that we are not fake! Just as we had said, we acquired users, we acquired advertisers, we sent out ads and are paying out the first 300-Rupee cheque. So, ladies and gentlemen, this works, we are real and we are here to stay!

Here is what we have done so far:

  • Acquired close to a million consumers
  • Over a hundred advertisers advertised with us
  • Ran over 150 campaigns
  • Sent out two cheques
  • Net user payout level stands at around Rs. 13,00,000

And it took us about 5 months to get till this point! Too long?

Now, what needs to be done to speed up the process, get more advertisers on board?
It is very simple. There are two kinds of answers that we get from advertisers:
1. Why should I advertise on mGinger when I can spam them at a cheaper rate?
2. There are not enough people on mGinger in my city.

And the solution to both of these questions is in our hands. All we need to do is:
1. Register on National Do-Not-Call List

If you do, then nobody can spam you on your phone. If a tele-marketer calls you even after you do, you can report to your operator and earn Rs.500 for every such call! A lot of companies are assuming that the consumers are lethargic, they won’t register. And hence, they will be able to exploit you by spamming you, sending you messages without your permission. This is your chance to say NO! and we implore you to do it very loudly. Educate everyone you know about the NDNC and let no one get exploited!

2. Get atleast 10 people each onto mGinger

As we are trying to sell to the advertisers it is getting clear that we need atleast 10 times the number of users we have now. 10 times?? Is that a tall order? Maybe not…all we need to do is to talk to 10 more people each and tell them why mGinger is cool. Our parents, sisters, brothers, friends, colleagues at the office …anyone with a cellphone! Please don’t spam them, don’t harass them…just tell them why mGinger is useful:

  • You can get discount offers on everything from groceries, clothes, pubs, hotels, movies to Flat-screens TVs, Laptops, refrigerators etc etc.
  • You can get job offers, notifications on events in your locality (events like music shows, dramas, social events etc), information on educational courses/institutions and much more. (More than 50 people found jobs through mGinger, thousands applied for various courses in colleges/universities/schools)
  • You control WHAT kind of information you want. Not only that, but also WHEN you want it. Finally, YOU control your mobile!
  • And to top it all… You get paid for receiving this information too! Not too much, but just enough to probably free up your mobile bill or atleast subsidize it!

AdGinger Launched!!!

June 22nd, 2007 by admin

is launched!! As per the plan!

AdGinger is the advertiser’s portal. It is mGinger’s twin. While mGinger is for all of us consumers, AdGinger is for the advertisers. A place where an advertiser can register, slice and dice the data, figure out his/her target market, type in an ad message, schedule it and pay for it…all automated! It is a powerful tool allowing advertisers to pinpoint their customers and reach them in 3 simple steps.

And, please do not be concerned, no advertiser can ever see your individual data. All they can see is aggregated results. For example, an advertiser can ask a question like “How many users are in Mumbai who have shown interest in Men’s Apparel and have an income of <2 Lakhs per annum?” and AdGinger gives them an answer: 25000 users (or whatever).

Now, you might be wondering, why do we need this AdGinger thing, can't we sell manually? And the answer is “No!”. Think about it, we have over 8 lakh users. “Wow, great!” But, actually this user base is spread throughout the country. To give you an idea: we have 16 users from Mizoram all the way up to 38000 in Mumbai. So, you can see how thinly spread the mGinger community is.

Now, imagine this: an advertiser from Jabalpur wants to advertise in Jabalpur. How many users does he get, maybe 300. He buys 300 SMS ads. Now, how many such deals do we have to do to satisfy an 8 lakh user base? 2700 deals per day. Now, that's impossible manually. The only way it can be done, the only way you can get ads on a regular basis is through an automated process: and the answer is AdGinger.

This is the point of AdGinger: it is disruptive in nature. Now, along with the big corporate houses even the small businesses, people with small kirana stores, people with a small website, anyone can advertise at a budget and in a location suitable to them.

Isn’t that true empowerment?

So, here is what we ask of you, here is our request to you: tell every advertiser/potential advertiser you know, tell the small shop owners/small business owners you interact with, tell everyone you get in touch with about AdGinger and the power of AdGinger.

The social impact of mGinger

June 10th, 2007 by admin

If someone close to you (god-forbid, but just as an example) urgently needed O negative blood and it is not available at the blood bank, what would you do?

1. You would, of course, tell your family and friends (maybe 50-100 people in total).
2. You can’t go to the newspapers, television channels, radio etc. Too expensive, too time- consuming…
3. You can send out a chain e-mail but you never know how many it is reaching…so you can never be comfortable with that lack of knowledge gnawing your mind.

You, typically, feel quite helpless…

But, with mGinger, what you can do is send a message to all the people in your locality interested in “Social Cause” informing them about your requirement. It will take no time, you will know exactly how many you are reaching and it is extremely cost effective.

Infact, we did just such a campaign for a person in Bangalore. We also did a campaign for a social service foundation looking to raise funds and they received very good response.

This brings forth a point: mGinger, as a vehicle of creating awareness for social causes, is extremely powerful since it provides precise reach in the most cost-effective manner. mGinger is, indeed, building a community.

Food for thought: is this an advertisement? Or is this information? Or is this a social/personal need? What do we call it? “Needvertisement”?
As we said, we are exploring new ideas, new concepts. Maybe we should all play a collective “naming” game coining new terms and hopefully we will create a whole new lingo together for the whole world to follow.

Why am I not getting Ads?

June 3rd, 2007 by admin

  • You will get ads only when advertisers want to send advertisements to you.
For this to happen, two things must happen:
    a. Advertisers must first want to advertise on mGinger, a new medium. Since it is a new medium advertisers are approaching slowly. Many are not even aware that mGinger exists. They are taking time.
    b. Those advertisers who do sign-up must want to target you. Advertisers target you based on your interests, location, age, gender, salary, occupation and many more parameters. If you do not suit their criteria, they will not send their ad to you.
  • When you selected the “Max. Number of ads per day” as 10 (or 7 or 5 etc), it is only your preference. It does not mean that you will surely get 10 ads every day. It only means that the maximum that you can ever get on a single day is 10. On some days you might not receive even a single ad, on others you might receive a few but not exceeding your preference.
  • mGinger doesn’t claim that it will send you any particular number of advertisements every day. Please understand that mGinger is just a medium. When advertisers come, you will get ads, when they don’t you will not get ads.
  • Please do not get carried away by the hype. Here is the reality: the money you will make from mGinger will in most cases for a long time not be much. The value of the service is not in the money you make directly from mGinger but in the valuable, relevant information that you get.

It will take a long time before we can get enough advertisers on a regular basis to send you even 10% of your max preference ads. This whole industry is a baby. Out of Rs. 16,000 Crores spent every year on advertising not even 0.005% is spent on mobile advertising. So, your guess is as good as ours on how long it will take to move some of this spend to mobile.

So, this is what we have to say to you: You will see very few ads on our network for some time (how long? Maybe 4 months, 6 months, we can’t say), have patience, stick to us, we are trying our best to attract advertisers.
