Searching the Web

The World Wide Web is a big place. We're all searching for something these days—cheap flights, reviews of a great restaurant, or a long-lost schoolmate. Barely a day goes by when we don't look something up on the Internet, either at work or at home. With Yahoo! Search, you can find what you're looking for quickly and easily.

To get started, try one of the most common types of search—a text search.

Here’s How

  1. In My Yahoo! with the Web option selected, type one or more words in the Search box, then click the Web Search button.

Yahoo! Search looks throughout the Web for web sites that mention the text you typed and then displays the results in your browser with links to the sites.

A results page can include the following:

    • Related words or phrases—shown after the Also try label. These are suggested words that might pertain to the type of information you are looking for. Simply click a word or phrase to begin another search.

    • Sponsor results—shown as web sites on a colored background. The owners of these web sites have paid to have their sites appear at the side or bottom of a results page.

    • Web search results—shown as web sites on a white background. These web sites appear in the order in which they relate to your search text, with the most relevant appearing at the top.

  2. To view a web page, click its link.

  3. To view additional result pages, click a page number or the Next link at the bottom of the page.
