The moment of triumph finally arrives for India in Perth as the visitors beat the invincible Aussies by 72 runs to snap their record of 17 Test wins. Revered as the most bouncy track in the world, the Aussies have been forced to taste defeat at W.A.C.A for the first time in 10 years. It was India, who put the brakes on Steve Waugh's record streak in 2003 and it's India again who have quashed Ponting's chances to be the skipper with the most consecutive Test wins. Beating Australia also becomes all the more remarkable especially after being 2-0 down in the series and with the on and off field controversies that could have easily taken their focus away from the game. The Australian tail-enders gave some anxious moments and brought the score dramatically close. However, the Indians, barring Tendulkar, who are making their Test debut at this ground returned back victoriously. Playing his first match of the series Irfan Pathan bags the Man of the Match award. Anil Kumble deserved the credit for the mature manner in which he has carried this team.

This has been an outstanding session for India with Hussey, Symonds Gilchrist and Brett Lee back in the hut. After a closely fought first session Australia are 142-3 and still need to 271 runs to win. Ponting and Hussey started the chase on a positive note and looked for run scoring opportunities. The 50 runs partnership between the duo raised Australia's hopes. Ishant Sharma, the 19-year old Delhi youngster bowled his heart out and troubled Ricky Ponting in his fiery 9-over spell. The fast bowler was finally rewarded for his splendid efforts, when the Australian skipper nicked one to slips as Dravid took a clean catch. Ponting missed out on his 40th Test fifty by 5 runs. India bowled 25 overs in this session and conceded 77 runs. There were few close calls which suggest that the bowlers have done a decent job. Hussey is unbeaten on 39 and is joined by Clarke who is on 11.

Australia are staring down the barrel at 65-2 in the third Test and the home team still needs 348 more runs to win. The first wicket to fall in the Australian innings was of rookie opener Rogers as he got an edge of Irfan Pathan. The left hander bowled a tight line and was rewarded with the second wicket of Jaques. With both the opening batsam back Australia have a giant task ahead, and to thwart the Indian challenge they have skipper Ponting batting on 24 with Hussey unbeaten on five. A full house is expected at the W.A.C.A tomorrow as Australia bid for their record 17th Test win and India hoping to snap the impressive winning streak by repeating their feat of 2001.

Ricky Ponting comes in to bat and he will have to produce an innings of character and class. One can feel for Rogers as this was just his debut game and was thrown a mammoth challenge by the Indians.
